Classic blue and white

If you follow other East Coast bloggers, you would probably know about the crazy weather we have been having. Cold, warm, rain, snow, just everything! I know, I take all my pictures in my room, but as soon as I get home, I just want to throw everything off and change into my pajamas.

Review: the J.Crew Icon Trench

Ever since I was little, I have admired the look of the trench coat, whether it be on a woman or a man. Nothing really says business(wo)man than a trench and maybe a pant suit, the latter which I think makes me look like a little girl in her mother's clothes. Though I would love to own a Burberry trench coat in the future, I wanted to find an alternative that would be a little more economical for the time being. Enter the J.Crew Icon trench.

Fedora comes out to play

I bought this fedora at H&M a couple months back but haven't worn it since. I really like the look of it on, though it doesn't fit very well, as the inner rim is just a bit smaller than the circumference of where it should sit on my head. If was just the slightest bit windy, the hat goes bye bye! I need to think of an inventive way to pin the hat down somehow...is there such thing as hair glue?

Luncheon wears

Obviously I was having too much fun
blazer - zara m, sweater - zara s
skirt - ann taylor 00p, tights - loft, shoes - shoemint 5.5

(I actually wore my black loft wedges instead of my booties to the luncheon today, but I left them at work. The booties are my commuter shoes)

When I first started to going to work luncheons, I had no idea what to wear. My first time, I wore a black suit just to be safe, which was fine but also quite boring. I hoped to take fashion cues from other women in my industry, but their tastes were a bit mature for me. As I go to more of these functions, I am slowly learning how to style an outfit that is age appropriate, fashionable, but yet professional.

Red and green after Christmas?

I have always been tentative to wear green and red together, especially if Christmas has passed. I think today's outfit is appropriate for both the holidays and daily life because the green is more on the olive side. I am extremely glad that winter in NYC has taken a hiatus, as exploring the city can be so miserable when its freezing cold.

Review: J. Crew snowcap puffer, tipped hacking jacket, schoolboy blazer in wool flannel

These past few months, a majority of my credit card charges were due to online purchases from J. Crew. I have been on the quest to find my perfect winter coat (and I'm pretty sure I'll have a winner by Monday when I get a package), which has resulted in a bunch of returns due to sizing issues. In addition, the 30%/40% online and in store sales have proven dangerous for me, as I check the website each morning before work and often just make the impulse buy before sizes are gone. Though these items are on sale now and will be gone soon, I figured a review could be handy as similar styles may appear next year. At the very least it would be good for future reference, right?

Snowcap Quilted Jacket in Dark Olive, xxs, xs

The difference between the xs and xxs. The xs is wider by just a little, probably 1/2 an inch or less total. The sleeves of the xs also seem a tad longer and wider, but by a negligible amount.

Out of style? idk, idc

I purchased my first pair of colored denim jeans early last spring, my last semester of college. I wore my first two pairs, baby pink and baby blue colors, quite often, but never wore this pair, since it was a size smaller than the other two. Now that I fit into them, it is the middle of winter, and probably out of season as well. Sigh. It's okay, this electric coral pops against the edgy, dark colors that surround me in New York City.

Mixing prints & a little bit of sweetness

The following are two outfits I wore to work yesterday and today. I actually work in a pretty corporate environment, but I am lucky enough to have superiors that do not demand for us to be in business formal attire daily. As a recent graduate, I am having trouble determining what is and what isn't ok in the office, as well as finding a cohesive style. They say that, if you have to think about it, then it's probably not appropriate, but I think that's just for more skimpier wear.

shirt - loft xs, sweater - arden b. xs
skirt - h&m 4, tights - loft s
shoes - shoemint 5.5, wallet - kate spade

sweater - china, jacket - ann taylor 00
skirt - h&m 4, tights - loft
boots - report 5.5, wallet - kate spade

I feel like both my outfits look a bit childish or young, despite shopping at more work friendly places. Is this appropriate for the work place? I know my skirts are a little short, but being short and tights hopefully lets me get away with it!

Wednesday blues

This weekend, I purchased this blue blazer from Loft for $35. I had been eyeing it for awhile, and finally bit the bullet after I saw it on sale with a further 50% off. At the time, I had a chambray shirt on and the blazer seemed to fit perfectly. However, today I paired the blazer with a thin shirt from F21, and it seemed a bit loose in the chest area. In the past, I probably wouldn't have noticed this fit issue, but after following various petite bloggers this past year, I have become more critical about the fit of clothes, almost to a fault (more on that in a later post). In the end though, good fitting clothes have made me more satisfied with my purchases, which is super important considering that I have tended to be a purchase-and-regret type of girl.

(sorry about the cut-off shoes)
blazer - loft 0p, shirt - f21 s, skirt - h&m 4
shoes - loft 5.5, bag - longchamp

This skirt from H&M is my favorite purchase as of late. I can't really describe the pattern other than with the phrase "nautical honeycomb." Even though the skirt is unlined, the material is thick enough to hide lines, and most importantly, the material does not crease even after sitting for hours! Today was my first day wearing the skirt and I know it'll be a piece that I'll be keeping for years.

Until I get my tripod and clicker in the mail, I will make due by asking strangers to help me take pictures using my iPhone. A little out of my comfort zone, but as my boss says, "it builds character."

The beginning

I haven't blogged since my silly little Xanga freshman year of high school. Hopefully this will be a place where I can eventually learn to find the style that fits me and my lifestyle. A first real style post coming soon!
